The Story Thus Far

In search of a venue we’ve had to give up our dream  (I’m pretty sure we’re giving up on it but you never know) of getting married at the small and gorgeous St Oswalds Church on the Kaikoura Coast (pictured) and having the reception at the near by Kekerengu Store.

The church is just too small and the Store wasn’t that forthcoming about hosting a wedding, which is a little weird esp as their pamphlet stipulates catering for weddings.

SO… We’re thinking still on the Coast. Why? Well…. why anything really. We really want to make the wedding a bit more of an event. I know some of you will be shocked by this as Gebz and I are really quiet and subdued in most things we do.  We really want to do something that takes people out of their everyday lives and FORCES them to celebrate with us for a whole 3 days! Well, this day figure isn’t finalised, but the idea of having an extended celebration with people closest to us really appeals, plus it means that all the people coming from overseas have a bit more of a reason to book their damn flights!!

Kaikoura has a kind of energy about it, whether it be a clear day or a howling southerly it always provides a powerful scene. Plus it’s close enough to Chritchurch and to Nelson, where most of my Dad’s family are, so people can get away without it being a massive mission!  There’s loads of cool stuff to do in the area and it’s close to our beloved Mt Lyford.

Anyway – we are still looking for venues, we have looked with some enthusiasm at the Kaikoura Winery and perhaps getting married in St Pauls Presbytarian church before hand. Mum’s been in the church but G and I are yet to check it out. I’d love to hear if any of you all have been there or know it – and what you think. Also keen to know if you think of any other places int he area. We’re also going to look a little closer to home – perhaps Akaroa or conversely farther from home in Nelson (which is actually still home to me). So keep me posted of any ideas!! We’re on the lookout!

Much love! Keep posting please x becs
